Contact: Steve Kunkel, IBCA FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Indiana’s Top High School Bowlers Compete in State Finals Indianapolis, Indiana – The Indiana High School Bowling Program State Finals were held Saturday at Cooper’s Sport Bowl in Anderson. The top eight boys’ and girls’ teams and the top eighteen individual boys and girls, as determined by the February 17 semi-state competitions, competed in the finals. The eight teams bowled two regular games, followed by five Baker games in the qualifying round. Individuals bowled three regular games. Stepladder competitions were held for both team and individuals to determine the overall champions. Competing teams and their scores for Saturday are as follows:

Sectional Champs* Regional Champs** Semi-State Champs*** The day began at 9 a.m. with team competition. Teams bowled two regular games and were then seeded for five Baker games. After the Baker games, the top 4 teams bowled a two Baker game match to move up the stepladder to determine the State Champion team. The girls’ stepladder put fourth seed Huntington North against third seed Elkhart Memorial. With a score of 464 to 414, Huntington North went on to bowl second seed Ft. Wayne Snider. Defeating Huntington North 412 to 348, Fort Wayne Snider went on to compete in the final competition against Lake Central. The Lake Central High School girls’ team took home the title with a two Baker game series score of 368 to 326. For the boys, fourth seed Brownsburg played two Baker games against third seed Pendleton Heights. Defeating Pendleton Heights 389 to 417, Brownsburg went on to bowl against second seed Shelbyville. Brownsburg bowled a 402 to Shelbyville’s 385, placing them against Griffith High School in the final round. The Griffith boys defeated Brownsburg with a two Baker game series score of 436 to Brownsburg’s 382, making them the 2007 State Champions. Team competition was followed by individual competition. The 18 competing boys and the 18 girls bowled three regular games before being seeded for the stepladder. The top four individual girls and boys, based on pin totals, bowled one game stepladders for State Championship. During the girls’ stepladder, third seed Michelle Grammatica of South Bend Clay defeated fourth seed Chelsea Farrell of Elkhart Memorial 233 to 225. In the second round, Grammatica went on to bowl against second seed Mallory Johnson of Whiteland. Grammatica defeated Johsnson 217 to 182. In the final round, Grammatica bowled a 268 to Concord’s Tiffany Buck's 184, making Grammatica this year’s State Champion. For the boys’ title, third seed Lynn Strohl of Boone Grove bowled against fourth seed Zach Corbin of Avon. Corbin won by a 214-180 count and went on to bowl second seed Alex Hill of Shelbyville in the second round. Hill rolled a 248 to Corbin’s 222, placing him in the final round against Cory Lee of Marion. Hill won the final match bowling a 228 to Lee’s 189 to become this year’s State Champion. The Indiana High School Bowling program is sponsored by the Indiana Bowling Centers Association, Inc. and bowling centers throughout Indiana. During the 2006-2007 season, 99 bowling centers throughout 20 conferences sponsored 170 schools for a total of 319 boys and girls teams.
